Job Description Summary
Position Responsibilities:
• Create and modify database structures based on DDL generated from methodology tool or database package
• Application development: design, code, optimize databases for internal Sunbelt applications - this includes table structure design and stored procedures, as well as security aspects, to be used by the software engineering team
• Maintain documentation describing the database systems infrastructure and major processes
• Task scheduling, coordinate backups, batch processing, and maintenance schedules with network administrators to ensure optimal performance and system uptime
• Tune and monitor databases for efficiency – periodically reorganizing databases for optimal performance during scheduled down time
• Capacity Planning: calculate volumetric equations to estimate new database sizes and plan appropriately for growth and communicate plans to server administrators
• Participate in application development processes to facilitate good database design and access techniques
• Ensure a consistent and high level of service is delivered to end users in accordance with the departmental Service Level Agreement (SLA)
• Coordinates with server administrators regarding software installation, upgrades and fixes
• Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short- and long-range planning of data systems
• Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems
• Host a "lessons learned" session to collaboratively identify areas of improvement
• Incorporate priority with backlog grooming and deployment planning
• Strong problem solving, analytical, organizational, time management and troubleshooting skills
• Proven ability to engage and collaborate across both business and technical functional areas
• Proven ability to mentor, lead and coach a team to success
• Must have the ability to multitask and handle multiple assignments and/or initiatives
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and well-developed listening and documentation skills.
Requirements:
Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or other relevant engineering field or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of experience in IT database administration and architecture
• Experience with Commissions application platforms is a Plus
• Automation first mindset, with focus on scale and support
• Must be a self-starter who is passionate and willing to research/deliver insights and recommendations
• Demonstrated practical knowledge of database design, programming, installation and configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting
• Experience with SQL Server 2014 and above, T-SQL, Integration Services (SSIS)
• Strong experience with SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) with SQL Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Familiarity with C#, ASP.net, and the .Net Framework, and Data Pipeline. Some messaging knowledge like Kafka or RMQ also preferable.
• Experience in at least one database platform and working knowledge of other platforms—such as SQL Server, DB2, Postgres, Redis, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) for automation
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure a plus
• Ability to interpret, adapt, communicate, and apply guidelines and procedures
• Ability to develop and implement short- and long-range computer systems, capacity, and operational plans
• Knowledge of business practices and procedures
